Welcome to York Only

The heart of Northern England, York is a city that has gone to extremes to embrace its turbulent history, which can be traced back nearly 2000 years. Today while trade and industry are still important, it is the preservation of York's long and varied history, which has brought it world fame. From here, visitors cannot only hear about England's history, they can actually see it and walk in it. York is truly ageless - a city for all time and all people. With the escalation of tourism in England it soon became clear that ancient York was the City's own major asset, and in 1968 the entire historic core of York was designated a conservation area.

Sites of historical interest include the Jorvik Viking Centre, National Railway Museum, and a castle and of course no visit would be complete without going to York Minster, which is said to be the largest medieval church north of the Alps. Situated next the Minster is a little church; it was here that Guy Fawke's was baptised. York is seen as Europe's most attractive business location, for its major rail and airport links. With York's ever growing culture, there a plenty of places to stop for lunch or to simply sit back and relax after a hard days shopping. What better place to spend a day of blissful retail therapy than among York's historic beauty, where there is a wealth of shopping experiences.

York is situated in the centre of the North with the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District a couple of miles away. The Yorkshire Dales have been designated as a National Park, which contains many desolate high peaks and breathtaking river valleys - some of the more famous dales are Airedale, Wharfdale and Swaledale.
